Pull Chain Toilets Make a Comeback

|

Anyone who has ever seen “The Godfather” is familiar with the old pull chain toilets. These models were first developed in the late 1800s, a time when only the very wealthy enjoyed private bathrooms in their homes. The hallmark of these toilets is the high-mounted tank and the attached pull chain for flushing. Now, it seems that these Victorian-style toilets are making a bit of a resurgence.

This model, which we found on the Do It Yourself Network’s site, really ties the whole bathroom together, if we do say so ourselves. Coupled with the vintage vanity and radiator, this bathroom looks like it’s right out of a Victorian mansion.

The cheapest of these models sold today come in over $300.00, so maybe times haven’t changed as much as we’d like to think. Still, the fact that there is a DIY page dedicated to installing these pull chain toilets speaks to their increasingly widespread popularity.

Fortunately, a skilled plumber can handle repairs on these models as easily as any modern low-flow toilet. So, if you’re looking for that perfect period accent piece for your bathroom this holiday season, we say have at it. Maybe Santa can even help you out with the price.
